Acting as a whole

I posted a few blogs about acting, but I think we need to address the why do we do this. Over all there has to be something, a spark or a thrill that we go up on stage and perform to audience. I would love to have other opinion but I can only put mine. I love the idea of a show, and a good one too. When you start a play you need to provide entertainment for the audience and all the work, blood and sweat that goes in there i think isn't paid back in the cash but in the cheers from the audience. The feeling you get when you are taking bows is amazing and just know that its was all worth it gets me hooked and I want another play to come.

Back and back to critics

I'm sorry it has been almost a week now but I was busy. I want to go back to the subject of what makes a great critics. In a perfect world I would see it as a person who has never seen a play but know what makes one good and what makes one bad. Of course this is impossible because true learning come from experience so where is the line that would make a perfect critic. I have come to learn that it is about 10 to 12 plays of course this only last for a short period of time because i have seen about 10 and i can keep the essence and beauty and now i am starting to find more specific things that were missing. I think is the truth but i may be wrong so dont take my idea for stone and tell me what you think it should be.

Aristophanes and Critics

A true playwright through and through, works of amazing gold, is how people would describe Aristophanes. Recently I had to do some homework on him and taking advantage of this forced work,I am using it to write this blog. He is known as the best comedy playwright of all old comedy wrights, which is a bold statement in its self neglecting the fact that he is the only comedic playwright from old times that play's exist today. How I want to ask is this possible that you can compare a play to plays you known not the wonder of. This being in your mind i want to slowly bring you over to the idea of judging a play. Its seems simple when we watch it we go, "I love it or I hated it." In an idealistic mind set it is all that matter for most successful play is one that appeals the first time to an audience. Not any specific audience just the average Joe that walks in off the street. Not only that they depend on the fact that you have no past experience of that style of play to base it on. If you are confused let me link this idea to a story. Our friend Joe goes to see his first ever musical. He walks out of the musical saying, "Wow that is amazing." He has nothing to judge on or compare to he simply saw one musical that he thinks is different and as long as the actor song well it appealed to him. This will happen for maybe the first 10 musical but he will slowly set an order and then when he comes out of his 20th musical he can analysis based on past experience. Now here is my question so where should we stand to judge a play, on the side of how it amazes a random person who has only seen a couple. On the other side there is that we should judge it among our past experience (all that i care to point out are different) and say that one is better then the other based the points we can see because of the effects different cast can have on us. Both to me and hopefully to you seem irrational and stupid, which is why I hope I can slowly find that fine line in between where it helps the man who has seen a thousand of that play and the person who is going for there first time.

Living Part Two

So if acting is a way of life, then what is the difference from acting in life and acting on stage? As you probably didn't know till you read the last blog or read something like it somewhere else you always act but since you might not of known it you don't do it consciously while when you step on the stage you know who you are suppose to act as and what they want. The Greeks who created theater were the first to grasp on this idea, that we can take this thing we do in our daily life and improve it on stage. This was the birth of theater and what we call the stage. Now that you know how and why acting is a life skill you may be wondering why you need to know this to act. As you may have heard "On stage we do we don't pretend or "act"." This is a very interesting quote because it sounds untrue because we aren't going to kill someone just because the play says so its pretend. This quote refers to the emotional standpoint of a play. But in order to "do" and not just "pretend" we must know how and this is were stage acting crosses with life acting. As all actors know we must learn to relive moments of our life to strike an emotion our character feels but if we aren't conscious about what we are doing in life how can we relive a feeling that we didn't exam what you felt. With this info next time you are sad stop and think of how you feel, look how you stand. Then when you are on stage and you have to feel sad just pause, and relive that moment and position and you will look amazing to the audience and who knows where that might take you.

The Life

What does it mean to be an actor? Does it have to do with the stage, the lights, or a play or could just be simply a way of life. By definition of Websters Dictionary an actor is "one who represents a character in a dramatic production." Why though does it have to be a dramatic performance we live in a stage as Shakespeare put it and we are all just actors. He had it right because we act in our daily life and the stage is just a place where people are expecting it. Tomorrow when you go to school or work I want you to think what you are saying and how you are making yourself look and what you actually feel. No matter what job you have or the way you live you will at one point not match up. You will be saying and acting very nice (notice I use the word acting) but you hate the person your say and acting nice to. Overall acting is a way of life and an important skill to learn in order to succeed. You won't always be with people you love but to get an A you or to become a boss you must act sometimes and when i say act I mean good acting. Weather you want to use it as a career or not you can see that acting is an important skill of life.
